Gaps in the building’s roof and the adjacent CFA district headquarters caused water to leak into several rooms during heavy rainfall.
SES volunteers spent about an hour covering the station with a large tarp in a bid to stop water leaking in.
Contractors will be brought in today to conduct more repairs on the roof.
“It’s done a bit of damage to the fire station and the district headquarters,” CFA district 24 operations officer Mark Owens said.
“Four rooms in the two buildings have been affected. We’ve had some work done on the roof in the past 12 months but where this water leaked through is in a different area.”
The previous state government said it would fund a new station if re-elected, but lost — and Mr Owens said the CFA was in “high level talks” with the new government about securing funding.
He said while the rain had caused damage to the 1976 buildings, it hadn’t affected firefighting services.
“We appreciate the support of the local SES unit to come out and help us,” Mr Owens said.
The rain started on the Border about midday on Friday, with 51.8mm recorded at Albury Airport, exceeding the April average for the region of 46.2mm.
The rain largely avoided Wangaratta, with only 2mm recorded over the same period.
There were no major incidents reported in the region.
Albury SES volunteers laid sandbags at a home but the property was not damaged.
