THERE is something that the religious people who have been writing to The Border Mail recently tend to forget.

The Old Testament was not written in one year or in one place.
The first book was attributed to Moses who lived between 1500 and 1300 BC when there was no written language. Belief was passed on by songs, narrative and poetry.
Nothing was noted for 500 years and then the New Testament came into being after Christ’s birth (year zero or 6 – 4 AD).
The first half of the New Testament is attributed to Apostle Paul and the Bible closes with a story by Apostle John called Revelations recorded about 95 AD.
So the Bible was started 3500 years ago and finished by Apostle Paul around 95 AD. Dates are not that relevant so don’t correct me.
The point I make is that the Bible wasn’t written yesterday but thousands of years ago when our knowledge was much more limited.
People today read the Bible — which has been transcribed many times with parts added and deleted — as if it has just been written.
So when we read about God creating the earth and heavens, we should not think that he created the present earth and heavens.
Those who passed on the stories or wrote parts of the Bible much later were basically ignorant about the world but we believe whatever we read in the present Bible.
Why would a god create a universe as massive as the one we think exists if we are the only life forms? A huge overkill.
The Bible is not factual but a story book like any other story book.
I cannot believe so many humans actually believe that Christ died on the cross and went somewhere but is going to come back and make all the problems of this planet go away and we will then be living as one world in peace and harmony.
He has been coming back since I was a kid and I am now 72.
Anyway this scenario is according to many of the 4200 religious sects.
Humanity is certainly one screwed-up species.
