Paul Hanrahan, the Sydney co-ordinator of the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants group, protested with local members outside the Englehardt Street clinic yesterday.
Mr Hanrahan, who is also head of Family Life International Australia, said he had wanted to show support for the pro-life group at the clinic.
“When they shut down that place and don’t operate there will be no need for the ‘helpers’ to be there,” he said.
“When (Rights to Privacy Albury) really recognise that girls are in need of assistance and support, we might leave.
“We believe it is the gravest of injustices that unborn children die.
“Mothers tell us they have no choice, but if there’s no choice that’s not a choice.
“We give them options.”
Mr Hanrahan claimed “there were probably a couple of young people who changed their minds” outside the clinic.
But Pieter Mourik, a spokesman for Rights to Privacy Albury which protests against the pro-life group, said all woman had kept their appointment.
“I don’t think he has any right to come down here and violate medical privacy,” he said.
“He shows no respect for any other persons’ opinion and demands that everyone follows his beliefs.”
Dr Mourik said the Rights to Privacy Group would also stay.
“They say we’re pro-abortion, but we’re not,” he said.
“We’re for a woman making a choice and not being harassed.
“We totally support the right to protest, but go protest in QEII Square.”
