The 18-year-old Wodonga man handed himself into Wodonga police station yesterday following Saturday’s incident.
Police noticed the man driving on the Old Barnawartha Road in a car with no number plates about 4.30pm and made a U-turn to stop him.
They allege the man stopped the car and ran from officers, crossing several fences, a train track and the Hume Highway before running along properties on Plunketts Road.
Senior Constable Neil Hobbs said the man had attended the police station about 4pm yesterday after speaking to officers on Sunday.
The man had been disqualified from driving after performing burnouts in NSW.
Members of the public had provided police with photographs of the man after reading about the story in yesterday’s The Border Mail.
Senior Constable Hobbs said it was fortunate no one had been injured as police sought to apprehend the man.
The man will be charged on summons with disqualified driving, driving an unregistered vehicle, failing to obey a police direction and crossing train tracks when not authorised to do so.
He is also facing charges of improper use of a motor vehicle, loss of traction and emitting unnecessary smoke and noise.
