The Riverina Highway upgrade has received $5 million for stage one of the $11 million project.

“I am happy to say that the first $5 million is here and that work will start as soon as there’s better weather,” Mr Aplin said.

“Planning for the work has been under way for some time.”

Stage one includes improvements between Sandy Creek and Lake Hume, while stage two covers Lake Hume to Bethanga.

Mr Aplin was also pleased to see $688,000 for the installation of boom gates at Tynan Road rail crossing.

“This is a project that both council and I have written about for years,” he said.

“It’s now been funded and it will enhance safety because when there’s fog about it adds to the danger of the crossing.

“The Albury electorate has really received a massive injection of money for its roads.”

Other funding projects include $500,000 for continued planning for replacement of the Yarrawonga-Mulwala Bridge; $20.5 million for maintenance and improvements to state roads and $4.5 million for construction of southbound passing lane on Newell Highway north of Jerilderie.

In the health sector, $300 million is reserved for the delivery of Regional Multipurpose Services programs including Tumbarumba, Culcairn and Holbrook, while about $100 million is reserved for the NSW contribution to Albury Wodonga Health.

Henty is also set to get a new fire station with a $150,000 contribution towards the $920,000 project expected to be completed in 2018.

There’s also $1.9 million allocated for social housing upgrades; $230,000 for boat ramps in Albury; $110,000 for Tumbarumba Community Transport programs and $750,000 for Kalianna Enterprises Community Transport programs.

The electorate will also benefit from state projects from $19.6 billion for health services to $148.5 million on specialist domestic and family violence programs.
