I support the idea to have a new flag with enthusiasm and confidence — a flag with Union Jack that represents England off — republic or no.
The Southern Cross should remain, but placed in the upper left quadrant (in place of the Union Jack) which is the flag zone which holds the country’s foundations of government and heritage with the large star of Federation left in place (the cross of starts Union Jack size).
The second and fourth zones (right half) should have an important emblem recognised as distinctively Australian (as suggested by Mr Boyd).
There is only one I believe will be suitable and fitting and that is the image of the kangaroo in flight, as seen on the green and gold flag representing Australian sport.
I visualise the kangaroo in gold with a red outline border, all on a blue flag (which should not change) and keeping the red, white and blue colours from the original bunting, but now with the new colour of gold of the Australian nation — moving into its glorious future but with rich heritage of the past and all who helped make this the greatest country on earth!
