I’ve been rung twice within six days by the same company.
They must be desperate.
A bloke has rung me reporting to be a Microsoft technician.
He speaks very convincingly.
He says that you have a virus/hacker on your computer and you need to eradicate it immediately.
He asked me to log onto my computer, so I can see how the computer is being hacked.
He states that if you don’t do this immediately the police are coming around to confiscate your computer.
Naturally I ended the conversation at this point.
I am concerned there are many people (particularly elderly), who may easily get sucked in by these scammers’ demands.
I suggest if you receive a similar phone call you report it to scamwatch.gov.au.
This may be the only way we can stamp out this practice.
