RUNNING defender Mckye Turner says the Wodonga Bulldogs will be hungrier than the Pigeons when they meet for the second time this season, with the prospect of playing finals after a number of disappointing seasons driving a push towards the top five.

The Bulldogs are riding high after rediscovering their mojo in the last fortnight, and are optimistic about their chances in Saturday’s season defining clash with Yarrawonga.
“We’ve returned to the form we had at the start of the season, there’s some confidence about the place after getting back on the winner’s list on the weekend,” Turner said.
“Our last match against Yarrawonga was a great win in the wet, and I think now is going to be as good a time as any to get another win against them.
“We’re definitely a big chance.”
The Dogs dropped off the pace after losses to Albury and Myrtleford, but Turner said improved efforts against North Albury and Rovers showed the club had plenty of fight left in it.
“We know we’re a chance to win every game we play this season,” Turner said.
“There were times last year where it felt like we were walking into a slaughterhouse, and when you add the 15 or so guys we had on the injury list it definitely felt very difficult.
“It’s all different this year though.
“The twos are in contention for a premiership, I believe training has been a lot more focused, the recovery and off-field stuff is better than it’s ever been.
“You have to train hard and play well to keep your spot.
“Last season you could have a few ordinary performances and stay in the side, that’s not happening any more.”
Coach Dean Harding has been moving slowly towards a side that is led by the likes of Turner, and said the long-time Bulldog had improved since taking on a role as a third tall defender.
“McKye has had to play as more of a key defender in the last few years, so I’m pleased we’ve been able to play him in a bit of a different position, allowing him to push up the ground and be more attacking,” Harding said.
“That’s off the back of a big pre-season, he’s stepped up and increased his training loads and recovery efforts.”
