WHEN I saw President Obama speak so eloquently at the funeral of one of the slain in the Charlotte Church shooting, I thought how wonderful it would be to have a leader who inspired the best in people rather than a leader who deliberately tries to stir up fear in us for short term political advantage.

Sadly, our leader seems to act like the schoolyard bully, intimidating anyone who disagrees with his hardline policies.
The human rights commissioner, Gillian Triggs, and Mark Scott of the ABC, come readily to mind.
If the integrity and independence of the ABC are restricted by whoever is in power, then the state of democracy is seriously under threat.
