Greg O’Connor and wife Robyn Atkinson took over the historic pub just six months ago and raced outside to capture the experience last night.
It was the first time Greg had seen snow “actually falling” and also the first snow experience for their three-month-old daughter, Frankie.
“I was organising some wood outside about 6pm and thought it was raining, then I stopped and thought ‘hang on a second, that’s not rain!” Mr O’Connor said.
“We got all excited and put a photo on our Facebook page and it got something like 250 ‘likes’.
“We took Frankie outside and made a little snowman. She seemed a bit non-fussed by it all but we’ve got photos to show her when she’s older.”
The Bureau of Meteorology says the falls were due to a combination of rain with cold overnight temperatures.
Duty forecaster Keris Arndt said the ranges of the North East were being hit by a cold pool of air moving up from the south as well as moisture streaming in from up north.
"Generally if it is cold enough that rain will fall as snow and that's what we have seen happen," he said.
"Generally we've had snow down to about 700 or 800 metres above sea level last night.
"Any precipitation would have fallen as snow, and a bit lower than altitude if it was a little bit cold."
