But unlike the usual two or three falls the area experiences each year, this one carried a bit more clout.
High Grove berry farm owner Tony Iaria saw “a few flakes coming down” just before he went to bed on Tuesday night.
“But I didn’t think much of it until I got up this morning and everything was pretty white,” he said.
Mr Iaria estimated the snow depth at probably 10 centimetres by the time it tapered off about 7am, while Falls Creek had slightly more.
The snow had no impact on his berries as “everything is pretty much dormant now”.
“When it snows everything is just so still, it feels quite strange – everything’s calm and it’s not even cold.
“You come out the door and everything’s white and picturesque.”
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Keris Arndt said it was very cold early Wednesday, with a bit of rain.
"Generally if it is cold enough that rain will fall as snow and that's what we have seen happen," he said.
