Two cars collided on the corner of Hume Street and Olive Street on Friday night, causing a Holden Commodore to slam through the fence on Olive Street.
The impact also caused the second car to spin out about 40 metres, leaving the driver injured.
Allawa Motor Inn owner Jenny Watt said there had been a crash at the intersection every two or three months during her 26 years running the business.
But Friday night’s crash was the worst she had seen, and described hearing “one hell of a bang” as the cars collided.
“It was fairly high impact; there would have been high speeds for that level of impact” she said.
“The smaller car would have been a complete write-off.
“It’s wrecked.
“The Commodore that went through the bricks was fairly new and that might have also been a write-off.”
The woman in the smaller car remained the vehicle after the incident while the Holden driver was able to walk out of his car.
The woman was eventually taken to hospital by ambulance with suspected upper body injuries.
“It is concerning,” Mrs Watts said of the number of crashes at the site.
“It’s a bad intersection.
“It’s one of the only ones in the area that isn’t controlled by lights.
“I know the driver of the Holden is OK, I just hope the lady in the smaller car is OK too.”
Mrs Watts said there had been a crash at the site as recently as the previous Saturday, but said that had had been much less serious.
It’s not known what caused the crash or who was at fault, but the impact suggests speed was a factor.
No-one was inside the Olive Street home at the time of the incident, which occurred about 10.45pm.
There have been at least 14 crashes at the intersection in the past five years with several complaints made to the Albury Council about the problem.
A concrete median strip will soon be extended to block cars crossing Olive Street through Hume Street.
As part of the changes announced last month, drivers will also be able to turn into Kiewa and David streets from Hume Street.
Speaking when the changes were announced, Member for Albury Greg Aplin said the changes would inconvenience some motorists but were about safety.
"I regard this as one of the most dangerous crossings in Albury," he said.
"No doubt some people along Olive Street will feel inconvenienced, but they will be provided with other options which are safer."
Mrs Watts said she would welcome the safety upgrades despite the fact it could impact her business by reducing vehicle access from the Hume Highway and nearby streets.
