Sheedy coached Miles at GWS, before the club let him go to Richmond where the Howlong midfielder has made the most of his second chance.
Triple Richmond premiership player Sheedy says he’s enjoyed watching Miles play at his former club, but refused to say the Giants had made a mistake by delisting him in 2013.
“We just had to clear players,” Sheedy said.
“The most important thing is you don’t kill his career by not playing him.
“We always knew he was going to make it.”
Miles has worked his way off Richmond’s rookie list to become one of the club’s most consistent midfielders.
The 23-year-old, who played only 10 games for the Giants, had his best game as a Tiger in last week’s win over Hawthorn.
Miles had 30 disposals - 18 contested - seven clearances, eight inside 50s and six score involvements.
“He’s hardly played a bad game in his life since I’ve met him,” Sheedy said.
“He’s given kids around his height, with his toughness and strength, he’s given them a lot of hope.”
Another ex-Tiger who’s watched Miles closely is Craig Lambert.
Lambert, who played 219 games for Richmond and Brisbane but is now welfare manager at GWS, said Miles reminded him of Brett Kirk.
“He obviously didn’t get the opportunities with us, but he’s become one of the elite players in the competition,” Lambert said.
“Some have said he’s slow and not penetrating with his kicks, but he just finds the footy and you knew he was going to force the door down somewhere.
“He’s just a brilliant young man because he just works his arse off.
“Selfishly, I love his company and would love him still here (at GWS).”
