But Wodonga Saints president Clayton Wood says it wouldn’t take much to turn the ailing Wodonga Saints around, starting with a good senior coach.
With first-year coach Scott Montgomery leaving the club due to work commitments, Wood said there was an opportunity for a new coach and new players to revitalise the club.
“It's certainly a unique challenge, we're well aware of that,” Wood said.
“A quality senior coach bringing a couple of players with them would be a good start towards building a good senior base.
“This year was the first year all our lists were full from firsts to fourths, so we know that we have a junior base to work with.
“Whoever takes charge won't be dumped in on their own, we've got assistant coaches and fitness staff ready to go.”
Wood said the club also needed a major sponsor.
“We need a sponsor who will grow as we grow, we're a family based club with a lot to offer,” he said.
