The Border Bullets hosting the Southern Riverina Vipers in the first ever Plan B Regional Bash, the talent that is going to come out of the country matches will be outstanding.
It’s a region that has a long history of cricket, in fact I was part of a World Series Cricket Country Cup match against the West Indies back in December, 1977 – a match with mixed memories for me!
Trevor Chappell was in the 70s, and I was the last man in against the West Indian fast bowlers – so it wasn’t expected he’d make it to his 100.
I managed to nick and nudge and avoid, while Trevor took control and got his century, and as he got it a fan has run from over the fence, grabbed Trevor’s hat and tried to run off with it!
We were only given two Packer hats, one each year, so they were very, very rare.
I took off after the bloke, pads and all and tackled him, but in the process I’ve managed to cut my head with my own bat!
Trevor dusted off his hat, and the bloke was carted off by two law enforcers!
Apart from that guy, I remember the rest of the crowd being great, turning out in their thousands to see a really entertaining game of cricket.
This weekend we’ll get the first look at how the Thunder conference teams stack up, and how they’ll go against Dougy Walters’ Sixers teams.
I’d encourage everyone in the region to get to Bilson Oval this weekend to support this local competition, enjoy some quality cricket but most importantly have a Plan B to get home after a great day out.
If you’re heading to the match this weekend, organise a Plan B Nightwatchman to come and pick you up.
A Nightwatchman is a great Plan B.
