The musician boosted his tally of Golden Guitars to five when he won the instrumental of the year and Bluegrass recording of the year.
Denahy, who won his first Golden Guitar in 2011, said the Bluegrass track, Singin’ Shoes, was in memory of the late Benalla horseman Reg White.
“My dad knew him and I met him when he was an old man and still had horses and a dray he used to pull around town and do a bit of work for the council,” he said.
“He worked on the Yarrawonga-Mulwala weir when 500 horses and scoops were working on it.
“Dad loved the song and I was really happy to win for his sake.
“Singin’ Shoes is the sound of horse shoes hitting sealed road.”
His instrumental of the year award was for the song Cluck Old Hen and the same musicians from Melbourne were involved in both recordings.
“I was really chuffed for them because they put their heart and soul into this project,” he said.
The awards were announced on Saturday at the culmination of the annual festival.
Denahy also performed during the gala event where fellow artists Troy Cassar-Daley and Lee Kernaghan were also multiple Golden Guitar winners.
Kernaghan’s Spirit of the Anzacs won three Golden Guitars alone including Australian top-selling album of the year.
