Albury Local Court was told this week that Cara Mary-Margaret Fulmer-Lunnon had no excuse for what she conceded was a serious offence.
Magistrate Tony Murray pointed out how the victim had never even met Fulmer-Lunnon before the attack happened.
“There’s no real reason put before the court as to why the assault took place,” he said when sentencing the 18-year-old.
Mr Murray warned Fulmer-Lunnon that any repeat of “this type of behaviour” could possibly result in her being sentenced to time behind bars.
She had pleaded guilty to a single count of assault.
The court heard the victim went to the APCO service station in Mate Street, North Albury, on November 21.
The victim was in her vehicle with a friend, Fulmer-Lunnon’s ex-partner and two other people.
The victim had earlier received a text message from Fulmer-Lunnon, of Albury, as she wanted to speak to her at the service station.
After talking to some people she knew, the victim got back into her four-wheel-drive.
But as she reversed, Fulmer-Lunnon got into the front passenger seat and demanded the keys.
The victim refused.
And then as the victim looked slightly away from Fulmer-Lunnon, the teenager lunged towards her and punched her two or three times to the head.
The attack left the victim with soreness to the left side of her face.
The police witnessed one of the punches.
Fulmer-Lunnon was convicted, fined $300 and placed on a 12-month good behaviour bond.
