“WE can tell you you're safe and sound now.”
With those words, Wodonga policeman Sergeant Chris Parr reassured students they could resume normalities.
Over an hour earlier, Wodonga South Primary School received a call claiming there was a bomb at the Southern Rise Education Centre, which includes preschoolers.
Around 570 children and 50 teachers waited at an oval as police inspected the site.
Parents arrived to collect children as young as three.
“It was unexpected and out of left-field, you don't expect it in Wodonga, it's a bit scary,” Caroline Roberts said after fetching son Jax, 3.
Her concern was echoed by Tooba Fazal.
“It just came all of a sudden, I wasn't expecting something like this at all,” she said.
