Bruce and Denise Morcombe believe Wangaratta’s march against violence could be the start of real change.

The Queensland couple has spent the past decade advocating for child safety since their son Daniel was killed at just 13 years old.

They were in Yarrawonga on Saturday to speak at a fundraiser for the Daniel Morcombe Foundation.

“The law allows opportunity that we see as being unfair,” Mr Morcombe said.

“I’m sure we all feel committed to ensuring change does happen.”

He said judges should be nervous about ensuring they make the right call, not allowing appeal loopholes to get in the way of justice.

The Moorcombes supported Wangaratta setting the bar with a public sex offender register.

“We don’t want them, you don’t want them… if those turkeys come here, you need to know who’s in your backyard,” Mr Moorecombe said.

“Do something positive to make sure yesterday doesn’t happen again.”
