Maher said there was a strong mix of talent across all lines in the initial squad, which he attributed to the willingness of clubs to play youngsters in their senior sides.
“We've got a great list of players here, the clubs have been happy to have as many of their players involved as possible,” he said.
“It's pot luck across the board whether you'll get the mix of players you need to field a competitive side, but I think we've done extremely well.
“I've had the opportunity to go and watch a fair bit of footy lately, particularly over the Anzac Day weekend.
“So many of the players named in the squad were out playing senior footy on the weekend, if those players can gel together in the short time we have before the game we'll be looking really good.”
Albury had the most players in the squad with eight, followed by six from North Albury and Yarrawonga.
