The 18-year-old Glenrowan man was travelling north on the Warby Range Road at Glenrowan about 8.40am Wednesday.
The car moved into gravel as he looked into the back of the car before hitting a ditch and rolling once.
The probationary driver will appear before court on a charge of careless driving.
The man was not badly injured by the crash but was left shaken after the incident.
