Since forming in Dublin in 2007, Celtic Thunder has performed across the world, including several previous trips to Australia.
Continuing their tradition of paying homage to the musical culture and traditions of Ireland, Celtic Thunder’s latest show is a depiction both their musical footprint over the past eight years as well as their amazing heritage of Irish and Celtic music.
Both the ensemble and solo performances highlight the diversity of Irish music and song.
Powerful anthems Ireland’s Call and Caledonia, heartwarming ballads Song For The Mira and Take Me Home and lively crowd favourites such as Seven Drunken Nights all serve to showcase the musical talent of each soloist.
Celtic Thunder has been joined on the tour by special guest artist Damian McGinty.
Selected as a 14-year-old in 2007 to join the inaugural cast of Celtic Thunder, McGinty quickly became a fan favouite for his charm and his deep baritone voice.
In 2011 McGinty won “The Glee Project” and left the group after landing a recurring role (as exchange student Rory Flanagan) in the worldwide hit series Glee.
“I am really looking forward to my first Australian tour and my first visit Down Under,” says McGinty
“The boys keep telling me how beautiful it is and how warm and embracing the fans are.”
Celtic Thunder is backed by the amazing eight-piece Celtic Thunder Band on strings, guitars, percussion, whistles, pipes and more and are led by musical director David Munro, who also plays keyboards in the show.
The ensemble has performed for President Obama at the White House while the official YouTube channel Thunder Tube has been viewed almost 80 million times.
Billboard magazine has named Celtic Thunder the Top World Album Artist (in 2008, 2009 2011 and 2015) while the group has had albums placed in the World Album Top 10 every year since 2008.
As part of the tour, fans can buy soundcheck tickets to get an exclusive behind the scenes show build-up. Fans will be able to watch and can take photos of Celtic Thunder as they rehearse a few numbers for the show.
