Although Jon Henry and Darrell Spencer's side made the trek to Warrnambool at the weekend, Ovens and Murray general manager Aaron McGlynn said a number of factors would be considered before finalising the fixture.
"A lot of things are always taken into account," McGlynn said.
"I would say we could be looking at a road trip though.
"Goulburn Valley has travelled for the last two years and when we last played them it was up here.
"Saying that, we certainly won't knock it back if it fell our way."
The Ovens and Murray crushed Hampden by 66 points at Warrnambool's Reid Oval on Saturday while Goulburn Valley lost to Essendon District Football League by four points at Windy Hill.
Essendon went into the clash without former AFL players Brock McLean and Andrew Browne.
First-year Goulburn Valley coach Scott Beattie also had a host of big names missing including Kyabram star Lachie Smith.
The loss comes 12 months after the competition went down to representative titans Geelong.
Goulburn Valley and Ovens and Murray sit in seventh and eighth spots respectively in the latest AFL Victoria rankings with both desperate to climb back up the table.
They last played in 2010 when Goulburn Valley won by 22 points at Lavington Oval.
Hampden coach Chris McLaren believes his league needs to plot out a clear plan for the future.
“I think its time for us to work out where interleague is in the pecking order for us,” McLaren said.
“If it is a priority then we need to find a way to make sure our best players want to play.
"We saw with the Ovens and Murray, it's almost semi-professional football they play.
"I’m sure they don’t just rock up to training on a Tuesday and Thursday and that’s it.
"So if we are to compete at interleague level with teams like that then we have to be fully committed to it to give ourselves a chance.”
Geelong is the No.1 community football league in Victoria after defeating Eastern by 24 points at Simmonds Stadium.
It will play a resurgent Mornington-Peninsula next season following their impressive 30-point triumph over the Northern Football League.
