Administrator Mike Eden confirmed the appointments and was presently interviewing former councillors from the two shires to make up the rest of the committee.

Mr Eden hasn't settled on the size of the committee, but is acutely aware of getting the balance right of representatives from the former shires.

The majority of ex-councillors from both shires have put up their hands to be involved.

Cr Miegel and Cr Bourke will be paid their formal mayoral allowance and councillors selected to the committee will also be paid the same rate they were previously on.

Mr Eden said all appointments would be initially until December 31.

“I'm trying not to give them an unfair advantage for the next election,” he said.

“Some other merged councils have appointed councillors until June 30 next year.

“But I'm thinking that might be too close to elections and it could be seen as giving them a leg up.

“It is a real balancing act.”

Committee members would attend council meetings and participate in debate, but Mr Eden is the only person with a vote.

They will meet weekly in the initial stages of the merger with Mr Eden setting a maximum of nine councillors on the committee.

“I want to keep it as a low as possible,” he said.

“It will either be five, seven or nine, but no more.

“They will be basically doing what they had been doing with the community engagement side of it and feed it back to me.

“I can't be everywhere.”

Meanwhile, a separate committee will be established to determine what projects win a share of the $10 million available for community infrastructure.

Mr Eden will be joined by Albury MLA Greg Aplin, general manager Chris Gillard and a probity officer.

Mr Eden had a word of warning for groups eyeing off the cash splash.

“We don't want to buy shiny toys we can't afford the batteries and ongoing maintenance for,” he said.

“They have to be sustainable.”
