Alpine village Dinner Plain will mark its 30th anniversary with a gala dinner at Dinner Plain Hotel on Sunday.
Melbourne-based architect Peter McIntyre, who designed the unique alpine village among the snow gums 10 kilometres from Mount Hotham, will be a guest of honour at the dinner.
Alpine eatery Yama Kitchen and Bar will reopen at Mount Hotham on June 20 after a successful debut last year.
It is a winter collaboration between chef-hatted restaurants Tani Eat & Drink at Bright and Provenance at Beechworth.
Tani chefs Rachel Reed and Hamish Nugent and Provenance’s Michael Ryan and Jeanette Henderson serve up shared dishes influenced from Japanese cuisine and broader Asian flavours and techniques.
Reed said Yama Kitchen and Bar served modern Asian cuisine matched with premium beers, wines and cocktails.
Falls Creek boasts more than 30 restaurants with standouts such as Elk at Falls Restaurant, Summit Ridge, Huski Cafe, Bazaar (QT Falls Creek) and Feathertop.
Former Melbourne chef Silvano D’Allesandro and Emma Handley (awarded a chef’s hat while at the newly reopened Villa Gusto near Bright) serve Italian fare at the refurbished Astra Lodge at Falls Creek.
Falls Creek pop-up eateries will include a new ice creamery and the return of the popular Snonuts donuts.
Mount Buller will offer traditional fare with the opening of the new Mount Buller Fish and Chippery in the Village Square Plaza.
Australia’s oldest wine region at Rutherglen, internationally renowned for its durifs and fortified wines, will lure snowgoers throughout the season.
Australia’s longest-running winery festival Rutherglen Winery Walkabout attracts thousands of tourists to the region this long weekend.
The Italian heritage vineyards and cellar doors of the King Valley are another drawcard, showcased in the Weekend Fit for a King this weekend.
Renaissance Chocolate at Rutherglen and the Bright Chocolate Factory also offer handcrafted chocolates made by artisans in their fields.
