Missing a host of big names in Brayden O’Hara, Joel Mackie and Setanta O’hAilpin, the Tigers ground their way to a 10.10 (70) to 5.8 (38) victory.
It’s the second time this season the Tigers haven’t had it all their own way against the Magpies, who kicked three goals to one in the final term to finish on a positive note.
Shaun Daly (46), Luke Packer (41) and Daniel Cross (34) had more than 120 touches between them but the Tigers couldn’t translate that into complete scoreboard dominance as Magpies put numbers behind the ball.
Josh Mellington was kept to two goals, both from free kicks in the second quarter, as Matt Hedin did a superb job in defence for the Magpies. Ben Douthie also impressed with two goals for the home side.
