Head of Albury-Wodonga campus Julie Cleary said helping people who could not afford university was a fitting way to honour her.
“It’s for lower socio-economic students to go into the nursing degree,” she said.
“At the moment we’ve had about 30 individuals generously donate and we’re already up to about $2000.”
Miss McLennan died almost two weeks ago after sustaining critical injuries in a car crash at Lilliput.
The family has asked anyone going to Miss McLennan’s funeral on Thursday to donate to the nursing scholarship, in lieu of flowers.
Her funeral will be held at Wodonga District Baptist Church from 11.30am, as a celebration of her life.
Anyone attending is asked to wear bright colours and bring along a helium balloon to release at Glenmorus Gardens after the service.
