Protesters will gather outside the former Tumbarumba shire offices from 10am Saturday for a Maintain the Rage rally against the formation of Snowy Valleys Council extending from Tumut to Khancoban.

Tumbarumba is in the marginal federal Liberal Party-held seat of Eden-Monaro and Save Tumbarumba Shire committee member Lucy Henderson said the July 2 poll would be raised at the rally.

"Everybody is saying it's not a federal matter but we want to show the Liberals that it can't be done," Ms Henderson said.

"At our rally we're going to ask voters to put the Liberals last and to vote for somebody else."

Ms Henderson said anger about the new council, announced on May 12, remained strong and there was particular anger at Liberal Premier Mike Baird and his colleague Albury MLA Greg Aplin who represents Tumbarumba.

Mr Aplin said he shared the frustration of the merger decision but urged the community to accept the result.

"We have to work with the cards we have been dealt and the best way to do that is to have a say at the table," he said.

Mr Aplin pointed to $1.578 million allocated this week to improvements to the Clarkes Hill section of the Tooma Road as an example of the government not forgetting the area.

But Ms Henderson said 99.9 per cent of Tumbarumba did not want to merge and it felt as though Mr Aplin had "just completely wiped us".

"We feel extremely let down," Ms Henderson said.

"For him to say 'put up with it, it's happening', it's not good enough."
