The 2-0 loss to NPL West battlers Sunshine George Cross is United’s 17th for the season so far.
It was a similar story for the Border club, who had their moments throughout the match but failed to capitalise on them.
They had the run of play in the first half, only for their good work to come undone after the break.
The Cross’ Nicholas Gonzalez scored a brace to sink the home side at La Trobe, his first coming from a free kick and the second on the counter-attack after a United corner was cleared.
Recruit Danny Federico impressed in defence.
Saturday’s loss was the third straight game in which United has failed to find the back of the net.
The last time they scored was in 3-1 loss to Dandenong City in round 14.
The Border franchise will hit the road once again this Saturday, travelling to take on Werribee City.
