The 8.9 (57) to 6.11 (47) victory leaves King Valley just percentage outside the top six and Murray hopes it’s the start of a finals push by the Roos.
Nuggety Sam Evans and veteran Jono Rea were pivotal players for the Roos in the triumph, which was set up by a five-goal-to-one second quarter.
The Demons lifted after half-time, with Scott Pell and Jack Stamp leading the charge, but they couldn’t close the gap and fell to fourth on the ladder as a result.
“It was awesome, it’s been a long time since King Valley has won at Milawa,” Murray said.
“We’ve been building for the last month, so it was good to take a scalp.
“We’ve got a good list, we just needed to get some rewards because I really think we can be a threat.
“It’s our time to go.
“I’m in my second year now and I’m just starting to see the boys put into practice what I’ve been preaching.”
Glenrowan moved to third position when it brushed aside Moyhu by 48 points.
Matt Robinson kicked seven goals for the Kelly Tigers while Karl Norman was impressive in his first match in almost two months.
Goorambat and District maintained some breathing space in the top six with a hard-fought 14-point victory against Whorouly.
Bright had few problems accounting for Benalla All Blacks while Bonnie Doon and Tarrawingee posted mammoth wins against North Wangaratta and Greta.
