The former Farrer candidate withdrew from the race on Monday after reports linked him to a controversial Islamic group.
AEC legislation stated Mr Kunde's name could not be removed from ballot papers and his vote would be counted, meaning Labor was entitled to $2.63 for every vote if it polled more than 4 per cent.
But Albury Labor figure Darren Cameron said the party had committed to returning the money.
“It’s the right thing to do … these events happen to all political parties,” he said.
“We’re calling on the Liberal Party to do the same for their candidate in Calwell.”
Frankston-based John Min-Chiang Hsu resigned earlier this month after ties to a brothel were revealed.
