Police were called to a home on Schubach Street in East Albury on Sunday afternoon.
Two men had allegedly forced their way into the house and assaulted the 26-year-old resident with the bar about 12.45pm.
Property inside the home, including a television, stereo and welding equipment were stolen.
Detective Chief Inspector David Cottee said the duo had loaded the items into a Holden Captiva, which had been stolen last Tuesday.
“They were arrested a short time later by police,” he said.
“The Captiva was stolen from Wantigong Street on June 28 and has now been recovered, along with the property.”
Detective Chief Inspector Cottee said the men – a 29-year-old Albury man and 29-year-old Walla man – had been arrested near the scene of the incident.
“They have been charged with break and enter and steal, and assault upon the occupant,” he said.
“They were arrested not too far away.
“They alleged they were owed a debt.”
The incident occurred on a busy weekend for police on both sides of the border.
