She ran a very well conducted campaign and stayed positive and buoyant throughout. Marty Corboy , Eric Kerr, and Jenny O’Connor also deserve to be congratulated for their decent and admirable campaigns, as do the minor parties and independents.
On the other hand, the Liberals again demonstrated their failure to understand the Cathy McGowan phenomenon.
Since 2013 they have whinged and whined that it was traditional National Party voters that gave Cathy McGowan victory.
It appeared in 2016 they reasoned that they could run a negative campaign and Nationals preferences would ensure them of a victory, as Cathy’s National Party base would disappear. How wrong they were.
They relied on negative personal attacks, distorted facts, half-truths and lies. It was the tactics of a schoolyard bully and the majority of voters rejected it as such. If there is any truth in the old saying that “a fish rots from the head down” there is probably not a cat on the planet that would look at the carcass of the Liberal campaign organisers in Indi.
Perhaps it is time these people got out of politics and used their time contemplating their navels or some other equally absorbing use of their talents.
They could be replaced with people that understand the need for policies and positivity.
Respect for each other, respect for the truth and, most importantly, respect for the voters of Indi must always be shown.
Only the Liberal Party failed on all counts. Not only did they fail, they managed to fail in a disgraceful manner.

Happy retirement Barry
ALBURY High School has been so privileged to have such a teacher as Barry Overs.
I have travelled twice to Vietnam with Barry and students and have seen firsthand what students gain experiencing such a trip. Happy retirement Barry and thanks for your 38 dedicated years to the public education system.

Consider wider community
THE question is why put a fantastic new world class pool facility that really is only a few kilometres away from the existing Albury pool.
There seems to have been no consideration for the populations of Glenroy, North Albury, Lavington, Springdale Heights, Norris Park, Thurgoona, Table Top etc.
Also there would appear to be no consideration for the schools in those areas. Many schools, including primary, secondary, Catholic and independent, hold their learn-to-swim programs and school swimming carnivals at the Lavington pool.
To close the Lavington pool, and only have the proposed facilities open would then incur more time and costs for students at these schools.
Why not consider a world class pool facility at the current Lavington pool, or close to where the growing population is. I urge the Albury Council to consider these points when making their decision.

The price is sky-high
I WOULD like to know, where are all the investigative journalists?
Just looked at booking a flight from Albury to Sydney on Friday, July 8. Virgin charging $345 one way while QANTAS charges $245 one way with return $415. How is this justified?
One-hour flight with no meal? Looks like we rural people are subsidising the cities. Does Australia really have a Fair Trade Department?
