An early start proved worth it for Thurgoona's Chris Mosbey, who landed a monster 124-centimetre cod at 7.30am Sunday.
The angler also caught one measuring 79 centimetres during a weekend at Blowering Dam, near Tumut.
He was fishing with his friends, Steven and Peter, who had been casting surface lures.
Meanwhile, in Yarrawonga, 13-year-old Wally Thomson reeled in a 107-centimetre cod. The keen young fisherman will cast a line anywhere within riding distance from his home.
His mother, Nicola, said he had been fishing near the boat ramp.
“That's his biggest catch so far,” she said.
“Everyone praised him and said well done.
“I think a lot of the older men were pretty jealous, they've been trying to catch a fish like that for a long time.”
