Former AC/DC bassist Mark Evans remembers this difference was demonstrated when the band played Albury Civic Hall in December 1976.

“At that time, we’d come back to do the tour from England,” he says.

“The band was in a transitional phase, because in Europe, the fan base for the band was very much long-haired guys in denim vests and jeans.

“When we came back here, there was a lot heavy rock fans.”

It was a more rough-and-ready movement in Australia than what had occurred in the counter culture of the 1960s.

Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs took amplification to another level and, in 1972, pulled more than 300,000 people to the Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.

Richard Guilliatt wrote in The Monthly in 2012 the Aztec’s guitarist, Lobby Loyde, was driving through Albury “in an altered state” on tour and came across a country barber.

Suddenly, he decided to go in and cut off his long hair – to rid himself of all that “hippy shit”.

Music journalist Murray Engleheart documents this period in his 2010 book Blood, Sweat and Beers.

Engleheart is good mates with Angry Anderson and Mark Evans, who decided to adopt the title for their upcoming tour, which is coming to Albury and Mulwala.

“Blood, sweat and beers relates to all we’re showcasing in this show – Rose Tattoo, the Angels, Screaming Jets and Bon Scott’s AC/DC – it relates very nicely,” Evans says.

Members from all those acts will come together for the tour for a blistering three-hour set.

“It’s great, I’ve got to say it’s just a lot of fun too,” Evans says.

“With Angry and Dai Pritchard – we’ve all been pals for a long time. I first met Angry in about 1972 down in Melbourne. I’m 60 years old now, I’m really mature.”

For the show, Evans will use his 1966 Fender Precision bass which he recorded AC/DC’s 1977 album Let There Be Rock.

He’ll also whip out his Gibson L9S Ripper – the red bass he famously used in the film clip to the single  It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll) on the back of a ute driving down Swanston Street in Melbourne in 1976.
