A CYSTIC fibrosis sufferer, junior basketball coach and circus performer are among the winners of this year’s Wodonga Red Carpet Youth Awards on Friday.

Catholic College year 11 student Breanna Green won the major garland, the youth ambassador award, for her contribution to basketball which involves her coaching and playing.
Nicknamed BJ, she mentors four to seven year-olds as part of the Aussie Hoops program and also coaches fellow teenagers.
“I wanted to give back to the kids and have them enjoy it,” Breanna said.
“There’s lot of girls that stop playing and if a coach can help them they might get back and involved.”
Breanna was in the Wodonga Lady Wolves premiership team this year and has won the Lauren Jackson Award and the most valuable player prize in under-16 representative basketball.
“I’d love to play at the top level but my main goal is to coach at the top level,” she said.
The endurance and persistence award was given to cystic fibrosis sufferer Jaime Marquis, 18.
In addition to coping with her own health needs, Jaime cares for three siblings who have autism and epilepsy.
Circus performer Nick Hutchinson, 23, won the performing arts award after developing an act which was performed in Wodonga over Easter.
Mental health champion Hannah Ockenden-Muldoon collected the advocacy and action award for her deeds which include being part of the headspace reference group.
The apprenticeship-traineeship award went to Aleisha McDonald, 18, who battled depression before obtaining a traineeship with the Albury Wodonga Family Medical Centre as a receptionist.
Basketballer Alaana Northey, 17, who has enjoyed success as a coach, won the sport and recreation volunteer award.
Yackandandah’s Anna Ross, 18, received the visual arts and media award, while Megan Pearce, 25, was given the individual community service award.
Ms Pearce is completing a masters in social work and has been a youth mentor, Meals on Wheels helper and deputy chair of Albury Wodonga Regional FoodShare.
Mikaela Reid, 18, who assists her father who has tracheotomy, claimed the young carer award.
The prizes were presented at a ceremony at The Cube, Wodonga.
