But Adam Burt needed to keep quiet a long time about his success, having taped the episode of Millionaire Hot Seat in April.
“It’s been a bit of a nerve-racking wait,” he said.
Even getting in the seat required patience, as Mr Burt attended the show’s second-ever audition in 2009.
“It’s the example of the old application form getting stuck down the back of a filing cabinet,” he said.
An English teacher at Wangaratta’s Galen Catholic College, Mr Burt, 34, said he and girlfriend Stacey Gleeson looked forward to an overseas trip with his winnings while “some will get invested wisely”.
