After two years in the job, Lenon has decided against a third year at the Demons amid speculation he will return to AFL Riverina.
Lenon informed the Lockhart committee and playing group recently he would not be staying on for another year.
“It’s official,” Lenon said.
“The playing group and the club out at Lockhart know that’s the case.
“The first 12 months we made a fair bit of headway, things were going pretty well but we have probably taken a step backwards this year.
“We haven’t had a real good crack at it with injuries and unavailabilities - a few blokes pulling the pin and that sort of thing.
“I just feel the best thing for the club and myself is to go our own way. It’s time for change.”
Lenon, a seven-time premiership coach in AFL Riverina, has already been linked to a return.
It is understood both Riverina League club Mangoplah-Cookardinia United-Eastlakes and Farrer League counterpart Marrar have held talks with Lenon.
He wants to continue coaching but is yet to decide on where.
“I’m weighing up a few options,” Lenon said.
“I’ve had contact with a few clubs but at this stage I’m keeping my options open and I’ll make a decision on that in the near future.”
Lockhart is seventh on the Hume League ladder, a game plus percentage outside the top six.
They face a tough task in ousting arch-rival Osborne for sixth place, after enduring a similarly slow start last season.
Lenon said it was not an easy decision to finish up at Lockhart.
“It’s always a tough decision when you’re weighing up these things,” he said.
