Guy Kemshal-Bell was reunited with his son on Wednesday after the young man was last seen at his Lawrence Street home on Friday.
“Jess and I, and our family, together with Cameron's fiance Bettina, would like to sincerely thank all of the people who worked so hard to find him,” he said.
“It's at times like these that we so value living in a supportive community with people genuinely committed to helping others.
“We would especially like to thank the police for their efforts and co-operation in the search for Cameron. We are so grateful to have Cameron back with us. Thank you.”
The missing five days were part of a disastrous four years for Cameron Kemshal-Bell and Bettina Baird, who were being treated for post-traumatic stress disorder.
A GoFundMe campaign revealed the couple moved to the Orbost area from Melbourne for a quiet life, but that was far from the case.
Mr Kemshal-Bell said he was the victim of a vicious assault where his hands were tied behind his back before he was punched in the face, leaving him with a fracture in his left eye socket.
Later in 2013, Ms Baird was in a head-on car crash at 100km/h and sustained four spinal fractures, two hip fractures and a ruptured spleen which put her in hospital for three months.
Just two months later, Mr Kemshal-Bell said he suffered burns to his face, neck, eyes and throat during a gas explosion at his workplace. He said they were both diagnosed with PTSD and had begun medical treatment since moving to Wodonga.
The fundraising page had raised $1655 of the $60,000 the couple said was needed to pay their medical bills and restart their lives.
