“It's emotional, stressful but ultimately bloody rewarding,” Deegan said.
“I’m very proud of all the Wodonga Jets and Wangaratta boys.
“For a returned serviceman suffering PTSD it was the best thing I have done in years.”
Victoria Metro defeated South Australia in the grand final.
“The carnival was played in great spirit,” Deegan said.
“Country NSW-ACT and Tassie were all in the same accommodation. The mingling was great as well as making mates.”
The Border and North-East had a big representation during the Melbourne carnival.
Zac French, Jack Stevens, Harrison Surtees, Joshua Jose and Tyreece Rhodes-Orton played for Victoria Country while Joel Baker, James Elkner and Coby Graeber lined-up for NSW-ACT.
Wodonga Jets had the biggest representation with six players.
They played at grounds including Whitten Oval.
