Hayse almost pulled out of the match due to illness but took his place in the side, kicking two first-quarter goals before succumbing to a hip complaint.
McDonagh copped a heavy knock to the leg in the first term and joined Hayse on the sidelines as the Saints won 11.12 (78) to 6.5 (41) at John Foord Oval.
