Q4: The lead has blown out to 31 with six minutes to play. It would seem as though it’s curtains for the Bandits.
Q4: 8:49: Donte Nicholas picks up a technical foul and is fouled out, followed by another technical to coach chalmers. Things unravelling after a nice start to the fourth quarter from the bandits.
Q3: END: 24-point lead to Hobart with 10 minutes to play. The Bandits really need little shot of a miracle from this point, particularly with Nicholas on 4 personal fouls. While Hobart have shot the lights out at one end, the Bandits have struggled to finish. Surprisingly, the Chargers have taken four less shots, but hold a massive lead. The Bandits tightened up defensively that quarter, but couldn’t produce on offence.
Q3 – 3:06: Donte Nicholas finally drains the Bandits’ first triple for the game. On the flipside, Hobart have had 8. Chargers lead 70-44.
Q3:6:58: The Bandits are yet o hit a 3-point shot for the entire game. 57-35, Hobart.
Q3: Mays, Nicholas, McMath, George and Harding to start the second half.
Q3: Worryingly for the visitors, Nicholas and Mays both copped three personal fouls in the first half. Things absolutely must go right for the Bandits if they hope to claw their way back into this one.
Q2 – END: The Bandits will need something special in the second half. The Chargers lead by 23, 53-30. Wright (12 pts), Weeks (10) and Masunda (9) have kept the backcourt moving at a cracking pace, opening things up for White (10) and Southwell (8). The team is also shooting at a phenomenal 61%, compared to the Bandits’ 38%.
For the Bandits, Greg Mays lifted his output to finish with 11, but only Duck, Kearins and mcMath were able to add anything more to the scoreboard. Most dissapointlngly though, are the rebounds. The Bandits have been smashed 18-12 on the boards.
Q2 – 4:35: Points from turnovers are killing the Bandits at the moment. The Chargers have found 17 points from that source compared to just 7 for the visitors.
Q2 – 6:04: Nicholas’s only score so far has been a free-throw in the first quarter. Being well held.
Q2 – 6:48: On cue, a three-point-play and a field goal get Mays up to 5 in two possessions.
Q2 – Mays being held to just the solitary rebound thus far. 32-16
Q2 – Starting is Duck, Kearins, Nicholas, Mays and Harding.
Q1 – END: A fast start from the Chargers. Two early fould for Zach White is a win for the Bandits, but Hobart’s full-court press and defensive pressure has really troubled them. They haven’t been able to find a rhythmn yet, but the nice start from Deba George is a real positive.
22-12 at the first break.
Q1 – 1:33: Jack Duck subs in for George.
Q1 – 2:02: Zach White has started well with 7 points, but his second personal foul takes the Bandits into the bonus. 16-11
Q1 – 3:54: Great start for Deba George. he’s got six points in the first quarter, already passing his combined total from the first two times these sides have met in 2016. Chargers lead by 5.
Q1 – 5:00: First substitution, Ben Kearins comes in for Harding.
Q1 – 7:00: Two early turnovers from Darcy Harding, and weeks makes him pay. 7-2 Chargers.
Q1 - 9:08 – Deba George gets the first points of the game, a nice drive through traffic.
7:30: Tip-off, possession Bandits.
7:25: Looks like the Bandits will be starting with Deba george, Greg Mays, Donte Nicholas, Darcy Harding and Clay McMath on the floor. For Hobart, it’ll be Zach White, Jarrad Weeks, Shane Southwell, Tom Wright and Tiri Masunda.
7pm: The Bandits’ ability to stretch the floor is one aspect that could trouble the Chargers. The forward battle between Greg Mays, Clay McMath and their Hobart counterparts Shane Southwell and Zach White should entertain. Southwell and White were dominant when they defeated the Bandits back in round 15, scoring 16 and 19 points respectively.
6pm: Let’s have a look at some key matchups.
As pointed out in the SEABL match preview, Deba George will have to lift in the point guard battle against Chargers star Jarrad Weeks. Both players can blow the game wide open, but Hobart have been more reliant on Weeks this season than the Bandits have been on George. In facing the other two potent backcourt players for Hobart, Tom Wright and Tiri Masundi, it’ll be interesting to see which way the Bandits will go. Donte Nicholas can play a role here, but the option is to go big with Harding or to entrust either Jack Duck or Ben Kearins with bigger minutes at guard.
