Police found Scott Dickinson, 48, dead in his Hibiscus Crescent home about 5.25am after receiving a triple-0 call.
He had stab wounds to his upper body and legs and his partner, 30, was arrested at the scene.
The triple-0 caller suggested there had been multiple people at the home but officers only found two people inside.
The woman was taken to Albury police station and was questioned before being charged with murder on Thursday afternoon.
She is due to appear before court on Friday morning.
Police allegedly found a knife, which was seized as evidence, at the housing commission property.
A nearby resident said police and paramedics were constantly at the residence, particularly on Friday and Saturday nights.
It’s a very tragic event for all those concerned.
- Albury Detective Chief Inspector David Cottee
She described the man’s death as “very sad”.
“I saw something around 5.30am and I knew something was going on,” she said of the police presence.
“I got up at 7.30am and everything was taped off.”
Officers had sealed off the home with police tape and conducted a doorknock of nearby residents as the home was examined.
Detective Chief Inspector David Cottee said the investigation was still in its early stages.
“This type of crime is worrying no matter what the location,” he said. “It’s a very tragic event for all those concerned.
“(The woman) doesn’t appear to have suffered any injuries at this stage.”
Forensic officers removed various pieces of evidence from the brick property over several hours.
Mr Dickinson’s body is yet to be formally identified.
He told The Border Mail in 2008 he was a single father with a daughter aged 10 at the time and was struggling to live off shrinking government benefits.
“Trying to slot in six hours of work and dropping off my daughter to school and picking her up from school is tough," he said.
Tributes flowed online for the man known by friends as “Scotty” following news of his death.
