Lawless hasn’t played since Yarrawonga beat North Albury in round 16 but co-coach Chris Kennedy said there was a chance the line-breaker could play in a preliminary final if the Pigeons beat Wodonga Raiders on Sunday.
“He physically couldn’t play this week but he hasn’t ruled out playing next week if we get through,” Kennedy said.
The Pigeons have a host of big names out with Craig Ednie (calf) and Tim Cooper (AC joint) joining Lawless on the sidelines. Marcus McMillan (calf) could join them if he fails to prove his fitness on Saturday morning.
Premiership players Tyler Bonat and Richard Handreck return for the Pigeons to provide experience to a line-up that was hammered by Lavington in the qualifying final.
“That’s one thing that was exposed on the weekend, experience in playing in finals,” Kennedy said.
