Albury man Cody Robert Schulz, 21, was living out of the white Mitsubishi Magna involved in two incidents earlier this year.
The young father has already been to jail several times for drug possession and supply, with multiple priors for traffic offences.
Magistrate Tony Murray said his latest offences were highly dangerous and in need of a severe punishment.
Schulz, who appears to have never held a licence, was driving on Prune Street in Lavington on March 13 when he was spotted by police.
He took off at double the speed limit, and turned into Schaefer Street.
Police did not chase after him as they knew his identity.
They caught up with him two days later on the Hume Highway at Ettamogah.
The Magna was travelling at 123km/h about 5.45am and police chased it near the Olympic Highway when Schulz failed to stop.
He overtook another vehicle and shot past a second police car travelling ahead.
The car hit 178km/h near Newtons Road, passed another truck and sped through the Woomargama township.
Schulz travelled back on the highway and hit speeds of between 150 and 183km/h and turned his lights off for several seconds.
Police called off the chase but continued to patrol.
The Magna passed a police car on Bowna Road and Schulz again turned off the headlights.
He dumped the car in a driveway on Sweetwater Road and could not be found despite an extensive police search.
Police caught him walking on the road about 11am.
Albury Local Court recently heard he had been on a bond for drug supply and knife possession at the time and banned from driving until March 2019.
“People who chose to evade detection and arrest at considerable risk, can expect substantial penalties to be imposed,” Mr Murray said.
Schulz was given a 13-month jail term and will be eligible for parole on October 12.
