Beechworth’s annual cherry blossom weekend kicked off last night with a Chinese banquet. Today attention turns to the North East town’s Chinese heritage. There’ll be craft and gardening workshops, a walking tour of historic Chinese sites around Beechworth will leave from the Chinese section of the Beechworth Cemetery at 11am and at noon will see the Chong Yang “Sweeping of the Graves” event at the cemetery. Get along and learn about the fascinating lives of some of the old town’s Chinese pioneers.
