The father of three believes there needs to be more crossing points along Beechworth Road, between Brockley and Pearce streets.
He also wants a school crossing on Melrose Drive, south of the Lawrence Street roundabout, to be moved because it is a safety concern.
“That’s something close to home for me – child safety,” Mr Shannon said.
The lawns and gardens maintenance franchisee said he was motivated to stand for council after receiving regular feedback about the city.
Mr Shannon said that commentary centred on rates being too high.
He also wants an improvement in consultation, citing the Hunchback Hill strategy as an example of the council failing.
“I’m happy with the way the city is moving but there needs to be more community involvement,” Mr Shannon said.
“You look at Riverside Estate, they never got one objection and you know why – because they consulted.”
