Officers stopped a car in Crispe Street about 1.45am on Sunday, and found that the vehicle was unregistered.
Police searched through the car and found the gun and several knives.
A 44-year-old man from Gumly Gumly was arrested at the scene before being charged with traffic and weapons offences.
He was refused bail and will appear before Griffith Court on Wednesday.
