With first round matches transferred to hard courts due to the rain, Andrew Shearer and Dion Rowland did just enough in the final set to give their side a one-game victory.
Jackson Land and Paul Craane gave plenty of support while Travis Prater and Zac Smith put in strong showings for Sacred Heart.
The closest match in the ladies was between Thurgoona Jade and clubmates Slammers with the former home four sets to two but games level on 39 apiece.
An unbeaten Maddy Wighton, along with Leah Cassidy, Trish Baldwin and Alison Barrett, claimed the final two rubbers and the points in an entertaining contest.
Chelsea Hargreaves was a two-set winner for Slammers.
Wodonga Larrikins started their season well with a straight forward win over Wodonga Dodgers.
Jeanne Peirgrosse, Kendall Oates, Di Larkin and Sandra Allen contributed well with Ashleigh Craven and Wendy Wolter claiming the final stanza for the losers.
The combined side Tags (Thurgoona and Glenly, St Patricks) enjoyed a first-up victory over Wodonga Tigers.
Sam Chant, Lara Wighton and Cameron Goss were solid performers with Emily Price and Sue Dickins grabbing the final set for Tigers.
A dominant singles win by Trey Murphy was instrumental in St Patricks/Diggerville’s narrow two game triumph over Thurgoona Jets in section one men.
Isaac Dallinger and Zac Burhop lent a hand.
Wodonga Bulldogs recovered from a mid-afternoon deficit against Forrest Hill Blues, finishing strongly to take the points 4-39 to 2-34.
Travis Leenaerts was the standout for Bulldogs, supported by Graham Hawkins and Terry McLean with Marcus Busch and Rodney Wurtz both winning singles for Blues.
In the remaining match, Forrest Hill Galahs easily defeated Forrest Hill Eagles.
Wodonga Bushrangers battled hard for their narrow victory over Forrest Hill Wombats in section two.
Justin Mocellin, Mark Neil, John McVean and Sam Ebert stood up in the final two stanzas to give Bushrangers a five sets to three advantage, with games locked at 47 each.
Albury rattled off the final four sets to claim the win against Forrest Hill Blues.
Steve Smith finished unbeaten, with Ron Turton, Graeme Barned and Paul Grover playing excellent doubles.
SPD defeated Forrest Hill Diggers.
The rest of the competition kicks off on Saturday at hard court clubs.
