Ms Roos lives nearby, but takes her dog Rolly to the off-leash park in Wodonga’s Belvoir Park because of its better facilities.
The Logan Road facility is one of five off-leash parks in Albury, with three more proposed, including one in Thurgoona, under a new strategy from Albury Council.
“My biggest concern is the fencing, and dogs can easily run onto the road,” Ms Roos said.
“Rolly is one dog who doesn’t listen and when you get 10 dogs together none of them listen.
“If they are running they don’t pay attention to what they are running to.”
The three new off-leash parks are proposed for Ernest Grant Park or Thurgoona Drive Parkland in Thurgoona, an area between Bonnie Doon Park and Haydon Park in West Albury and a section of Mungabareena Reserve in East Albury.
The strategy also aims to improve facilities with more seats, drinking water and dog waste bags and bins.
Oddies Creek and Logan Road park are also earmarked to include agility equipment.
Ms Roos said she was a fan of off-leash parks.
“The benefits are great socialisation for the dog itself,” she said.
“It is good for dog owners to socialise as well.
“The biggest thing is your dog can run free in a safe environment.”
The council’s community and recreation director James Jenkins said the long-term aim was for all dog owners in the city to live within walking distance of an off-leash area.
“It is important that our current off-leash areas meet the needs of its users,” he said.
“Following the consulation period the council will need the assistance of various sections of the community to ensure the successful implementation of the strategy.”
